Brussels American School (BAS) was constructed in Brussels to support the American military and NATO Headquarters when they moved from France at the end of 1966. BAS belongs to a federal organization known as the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS), a school system consisting of approximately 150 schools worldwide. DoDDS is a subordinate unit of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), which is based in Arlington, Virginia. DoDEA falls under the authority of the Secretary of Defense. The school is a US Department of Defense Education school, and certain requisites for enrollment may apply. The availability of spaces for non-US Department of Defense dependents may be limited.
