The University of Arkansas, founded in 1871, is a public, land-grant institution. It provides a special sense of place, created by rich traditions and the resources of a nationally competitive student-centered research institution. Programs are offered through the Schools of Architecture, Continuing Education, and Law; the Colleges of Arts and Sciences; Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences; Business Administration; Education and Health Professions; and Engineering; and the Graduate School. Students are taught and mentored by faculty who are known in their fields for technological breakthroughs, scientific discoveries, intellectual research and artistic expression. The campus is located on a hilltop in beautiful Fayetteville, with the scenic Ozark Mountains as a backdrop. A unique tradition of the campus is the senior walk. Since 1876, every graduate's name is etched into the sidewalk. Now, more than 112,000 names can be seen on five miles of campus walkways. Its 337-acre campus is located in the Ozark Mountains in northwestern Arkansas.
